Little Hands. Curious Minds.
A Love for Nature.
There's something rather special about watching a child recognise a bird they've only ever seen in a book or a game. A Little Bird Told Me was created to make those little moments happen more often.
Through play, children are introduced to 14 Australian bird species, learning to recognise their unique features, discover their extraordinary behaviours and remember the fascinating little things that make each one special.
Along the way, they're practising memory, observation, concentration, communication and problem-solving, without even realising they're learning.
But beyond the educational benefits, my greatest hope is that this game inspires children to look a little closer the next time they're outside.
To recognise a familiar bird call, spot a feathered friend in the garden or become curious about the wildlife living all around them.
Because sometimes the smallest discoveries leave the biggest impressions.

a little note from me
What began as a wildlife illustration commission for Sanctuary Cove soon grew into something I never quite anticipated. The original vision came from Marisa and Steve, who wanted to celebrate the incredible wildlife that calls Sanctuary Cove home. What started as eight watercolour paintings eventually grew into a much larger collection and inspired something particularly close to my heart.
Many of the original artworks were painted over the Easter school holidays while we were living aboard our family boat at Sanctuary Cove with our three girls. I'd spend my days painting, with the girls coming and going, asking questions and discovering things along the way. What I hadn't anticipated was how much the experience would change the way we noticed the world around us. Even now, wherever we go, we find ourselves looking a little closer at the wildlife we might once have walked straight past.
The card game itself was inspired by my three beautiful girls. One is a fellow creative with an eye for detail. One is our resident animal fact lover, always curious to know more. The youngest is an absolute comedian who brightens our day. This game is a little bit of all three of them rolled into one: creativity, curiosity and plenty of laughs.
There's also someone else who holds a very special place in my heart and, perhaps without me even realising it at the time, has influenced so much of what I wanted this game to be. My granny had a wonderful love of Australian birds, native flowers and all things flora and fauna. She was incredibly witty, had the most contagious laugh and gave hugs that could make just about anything feel better. But more than anything, she was the first person who showed me what it felt like to have someone's complete and undivided attention. When you were with her, you felt like there was nowhere else in the world she'd rather be.
I think that's something we're all craving a little more of these days, and it's certainly something I want my own girls to experience. My hope is that this game encourages families to put aside the distractions, enjoy a few laughs, learn something new and perhaps notice a bird they might otherwise have walked straight past the next time they're outdoors.
Thank you for letting a little piece of my art, and my family, become part of yours.
Love + Light

♡ In loving memory of my granny, who taught me the beautiful gift of being truly present.
